The Best Spots for Family Photos in Scottsdale

One of the questions I get asked most is where we should have the session. Here are a few of my favourite places around Scottsdale & what makes each one great.

Family walking with their dog through the desert with mountains behind

Spot 1

McDowell Sonoran Preserve

Saguaros, big mountain views & that classic Arizona desert. The trails near the trailheads are easy going, so it works well for little legs too, and the light just before sunset is gorgeous.

Spot 2

Pinnacle Peak

Up in north Scottsdale, with rocky desert, cactus & views right across the valley. A lovely spot if you want a real desert feel.

Spot 3

The lakes & parks

If desert isn't your thing, Scottsdale has some beautiful lakes & green parks. Grass, trees & water make it a great choice for toddlers & dogs, and the reflections at sunset are lovely.

Old Town Scottsdale

Colourful walls, quirky streets & a bit of a city feel. Perfect if you want something a little different from the desert.

Spot 5

Papago Park

Right on the edge of Scottsdale, Phoenix & Tempe, with its red rock buttes & desert trails. A really striking backdrop, especially in warm evening light.

Spot 6

Your own home

Sometimes the best spot is your own back garden. It's relaxed, there's no travelling with little ones & it's perfect for newborns.

FAQ

Location Questions

What's the best time of day for family photos in Scottsdale?

Around an hour before sunset. The light is soft & warm, and it's cooler too.

What about the summer heat?

In the hottest months we'll go as close to sunset as we can to keep everyone comfortable. Bring water, especially for little ones & dogs!

Do I need a permit?

Some locations need a photography permit. Don't worry about it - I'll let you know & sort it out if we need one.

Can we choose somewhere that isn't on this list?

Of course! Anywhere that feels like you. Just tell me where you're thinking.
